An expository folio piece



 This blog post about Australian society has been created as a response to the Context 'The Lessons Life Teaches Us'. It draws from the focus text Sometimes Gladness by Bruce Dawe. The prompt that was set for this piece was, 'History teaches and shapes us'.

 

 

Beyond the set text...

A documentary I recently watched on ABC's 4 Corners made me think about my study of Growing Up Asian in Australia. Many of the articles in the text talk about the refugee experience. Escaping North Korea is a powerful insight into what it would be like to have to run from your country. It is interesting that the people defecting from North Korea, for the most part, want to be able to go to South Korea as refugees.

This eye-opening documentary could inform ideas for an imaginative, expository or persuasive text in either SAC or exam conditions.

Story Trailer - 'A Call To Arms' - p.242

 Dear students, accept your e-mail invite to this webspace as soon as possible and begin to make your mark by uploading your own story trailer to this space. I look forward to viewing them. Remember, learning together is an important part of working to achieve our best. These story trailers will allow us to share our thoughts on the focus text, and the ideas and literary devices it presents to us. You just never know, someone else's perspective on a story from Pung's anthology, Growing Up Asian in Australia could lead you towards making a point of greatness in the text/s you produce for your SAC and exam. What could you do?

This is an example of a reflection students have created on the Year 12 Context of Exploring Issues of Identity and Belonging. You too can get creative in the ways you explore ideas for our Context of Understanding Self and Place. Study and homework doesn't need to always be static, at a desk, with head down and bum up and the Creating and Presenting Area of Study provides you with an opportunity to have some fun as you expand your thinking and increase your knowledge base. Get together with friends, flesh out ideas and create a video brainstorm. Draw/paint a picture or design a cartoon that expresses your engagement with the Context and a focus text. Write a song inspired by the focus text and Context and record it. Take a photo. Choreograph a reflective dance routine. Use your passions to enhance your Creating and Presenting studies.
